Russian bees:

Health of bees

Russian bees are descendants of forest dark bees. These bees were widespread in the European part of Russia. In Western Europe, forest dark bees were also widespread, but now they are replaced by other strains. Nowadays forest dark bees have remained only in Russia, in its middle and northern parts. These bees are also named Middle Russian. But now, since these bees are also distributed throughout Siberia, it’s better to call them Russian Bees.

Often all dark bees in north and middle Russia are called Russian Bees. This is wrong. Most such Russian Bees are not pure strains, but hybrids. Experienced beekeepers can recognize pure strains, because Russian Bees have special particulars in body structure and behavior. Unfortunately, Russian Bees have been substituted by importers for many years. Purebred bees remain in a few northern regions of central Russia and others in a few nursery apiaries. The Russian Bee as a pure strain is disappearing.
